Ro weight loss alternatives: 3 options, compared on price and care

Ro is strong on insurance help for brand-name GLP-1s. Without coverage, though, you pay the manufacturer's price plus a membership, and it rises with your dose. Here are three alternatives, what each costs all in, and when staying with Ro is the better call.

  • Every price from each provider's own website, checked September 24, 2026
  • When staying with Ro is the better call, said plainly
  • Switching? Your dose is reviewed, not reset

NexLife publishes this page and is one of the alternatives on it. That's why every price is sourced, the brand-name options are listed with their prices, and the case for staying with Ro is made in plain words.

Quick answer: the best Ro alternative

For the lowest all-in price, NexLife: compounded tirzepatide at $169 a month and semaglutide at $139, the same at every dose with no membership. Ro charges the manufacturer's price for brand-name Zepbound or Wegovy plus a $149 monthly membership: $448 to $598 a month for Zepbound and $348 to $498 for Wegovy, rising with the dose. For brand-name with a care team at a similar starting price, Hims. If insurance covers your medication, Ro's concierge may still be your cheapest route.

  • Lowest all-in price: NexLife, $169 tirzepatide and $139 semaglutide, at every dose
  • Brand-name with more included: Hims, from $448 and $298, with a smart scale
  • Compounded with a physician you choose: Mochi, with a $79 monthly membership
  • Have coverage? Ro's concierge may make brand-name your cheapest option

Why people look for a Ro alternative

The reasons we hear most, with the numbers behind them.

  • Two separate charges. The medication plus a $149 monthly membership on the monthly plan.
  • The price rises with your dose. Zepbound runs $448 to $598 a month all in, and Wegovy $348 to $498.
  • Cash price without coverage. If insurance says no, you pay the manufacturer's price.
  • A different product. Some people want compounded medication at one flat price instead.

The 3 best Ro alternatives

Ranked by all-in monthly price, then by what's included.

  1. NexLife: Best for a price that stays flat

Compounded tirzepatide at $169 a month and semaglutide at $139, the same at every dose, where Ro's price climbs with each dose step. No membership. Compounded, so not FDA-approved.

  2. Hims: Brand-name, with more included

Starting prices close to Ro's, $448 for Zepbound and $298 for Wegovy all in, plus 24/7 care team messaging, nutrition guidance and a smart scale. Its site says it isn't available in every state.

  3. Mochi: Best for choosing your physician

Board-certified obesity medicine doctors you choose, plus registered dietitians. Compounded tirzepatide from $169 and semaglutide from $139 to start, including a $79 monthly membership, with the medication priced by dose.

When staying with Ro makes sense

Switching isn't always the right move. Stay if:

  • Your insurance may cover Zepbound or Wegovy: Ro checks coverage and handles the paperwork
  • You want FDA-approved brand-name medication
  • You'd prepay a year, which lowers its membership to $74 a month

Whatever you choose, a licensed provider should review your history and dose before anything changes.

Switching from Ro, step by step

  1. Don't stop on your own.

Keep following your Ro prescription until your new provider confirms your next step.

  2. Bring your details.

Your medication and dose, the date of your last dose, and your prescription label or a recent receipt.

  3. Expect a review, not a reset.

A NexLife provider looks at your dose and how you're tolerating it and, when appropriate, continues it.

  4. Know what changes.

Moving between brand-name and compounded medication is a change of product. Compounded medication isn't FDA-approved, and your provider will walk you through it.

Ro alternatives: your questions, answered

What is the best alternative to Ro for weight loss?

For the lowest all-in price, NexLife: compounded tirzepatide at $169 a month and semaglutide at $139, the same at every dose with no membership. Ro charges the manufacturer's price for brand-name Zepbound or Wegovy plus a $149 monthly membership: $448 to $598 a month for Zepbound and $348 to $498 for Wegovy, rising with the dose. For brand-name with a care team at a similar starting price, Hims. If insurance covers your medication, Ro's concierge may still be your cheapest route.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Ro?

Yes. At NexLife, compounded tirzepatide is $169 a month and semaglutide $139, all in, at every dose. At Ro, brand-name Zepbound is $448 to $598 a month and Wegovy $348 to $498, membership included. The difference is also the product: Ro prescribes FDA-approved brand-name medication, and compounded medication isn't FDA-approved.

Why does Ro cost more as my dose goes up?

Ro charges the manufacturer's cash price for the pen, which rises with strength: Zepbound is $299 at 2.5 mg, $399 at 5 mg and $449 from 7.5 mg with the manufacturer offer, plus the $149 monthly membership. NexLife's price is the same at every dose.

How much is the Ro membership?

$149 a month on the monthly plan after a $39 first month, or $74 a month if you prepay a year, according to its site when we checked on September 24, 2026. The first month is refunded if you aren't eligible.

Can I switch from Ro to NexLife?

Yes. Start an assessment and share your current prescription and dose. A NexLife provider reviews it and, when appropriate, continues your dose rather than restarting you. Moving from brand-name to compounded is a change of product, so your provider will explain what's different.

Does NexLife price match Ro?

The price match covers compounded medication. Ro prescribes brand-name medication, which costs more than NexLife's flat price, so switching already lowers your monthly bill: $169 instead of $448 or more for tirzepatide, and $139 instead of $348 or more for semaglutide.

Should I stay with Ro if my insurance covers Zepbound or Wegovy?

Probably. With coverage, brand-name through Ro's concierge may cost you less than any cash option, including ours.

Is compounded tirzepatide the same as Zepbound?

No. Zepbound is the FDA-approved medicine made by Eli Lilly. Compounded tirzepatide is prepared by a licensed pharmacy for an individual patient; it isn't FDA-approved, and the FDA hasn't reviewed it for safety, effectiveness or quality.

Am I guaranteed a prescription?

No. A licensed provider reviews your health history and prescribes only if treatment is appropriate for you. Not everyone who applies is prescribed, and that's how it should be.

Important safety information

Compounded tirzepatide and semaglutide are not FDA-approved. The FDA has not reviewed them for safety, effectiveness or quality. The risks below come from the labeling of the FDA-approved medicines.

Both medicines may cause tumors in the thyroid, including thyroid cancer. In studies with rodents they caused thyroid tumors, and it isn't known whether they cause them in people. Don't use either if you or anyone in your family has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), or if you have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Tell your clinician if you notice a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing or shortness of breath.

Serious side effects can include inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or sulfonylureas), kidney problems from dehydration, severe stomach problems, serious allergic reactions, vision changes in people with type 2 diabetes, and depression or thoughts of suicide. Tell your care team before any surgery or procedure that uses anesthesia or deep sedation. Don't combine either medicine with other GLP-1 medicines.

Tirzepatide can make birth control pills less effective: use another method for 4 weeks after you start and after each dose increase. Semaglutide should be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy. Tell your clinician if you're pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.

This is a summary, not the complete safety information. Read the full Prescribing Information for FDA-approved tirzepatide (Zepbound) and semaglutide (Wegovy), and talk with your clinician. You can report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or fda.gov/medwatch.
